…As Ijaw monarch pray success for Adebayo, Gbagi
The 2023 Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo and the party’s governorship hopeful in Delta state have pledged to deliver quality development rested on equity and justice to the Ijaw nation when elected in the coming elections.
The duo made the pledge as the train of their statewide stakeholders consultation moved belted at the Palace of His Royal Majesty (HRM), Elder Capt. (King) Dr. Joseph I. Timiyan (Ebenanaowei of Ogulagha Kingdom), Warri South West Local Government Area, Delta state where they met with the Delta Ijaw Traditional Rulers Forum which has King Timiyan as Chairman.
Sharing the pains of neglect of the Niger Delta region in the midst of plenty by successive, the SDP presidential candidate bemoaned the lack of equitable and fair distribution of wealth in the country, Nigeria since inception.
Adebayo the custodians of Ijaw culture and tradition said that, “Our mission before the Ijaw Nation is to thank the Ijaws for the blessings of several years they have bestowed on Nigeria.
“Our leaders raised the alarm in the country that the way to which we have formed our affairs will not bring peace and that will not bring development as well.
“We plead with you Niger-Deltans that, what SDP is bringing to Nigeria are not promises of highway or this and that but it is a promise that we are going to do justice though it is difficult to tell an elite culture who is used to seasoned graduates to listen and see that God has bless the Ijaw Nation with oil, but God is not partial.
“God has also blessed every community in Nigeria and everyone knows that, in Uganda it is the kingdoms that own the land that you negotiate with not the government of Uguanda, Uganda is just here anybody can go there and findout.
“That is why the King of Uganda and the other kingdoms have their own Ambassador in America who helps them to talk to oil companies and you can see that this community has their own scholarship fund, banking also, they have everything.
“And I think if we do that in this country, most of the tension we are talking about will be gone and everyone will focus on developing resources avaliable to them so the poverty you see in this land is not because of the laziness of the people.
“You have people coming to tell you to work, but how will the people work when the land and resources is occupied by hostile forces and stolen by the conspiracy led state government of Nigeria.
“How can the people work when government of the state are borrowing money to pay salaries and each individual governor has bags of dollars and the state is broke while the individual state government gets richer.
“Politicians will come and go with unfulfilling promises but we wish for justice and to allow truth to govern our affairs while we then vote in a government that is going to allow people of Niger-Delta, some Ijaw people to control their resources and focus on other resources across the country, eliminate poverty, insecurity, underdevelopment and enthrone justice in the land.
“So that when I come here and say you are my brother, you will receive me with warmth because you are not suspecting me coming to take what belongs to you and you see that I can stay back to my home and develop what belongs to me.
” So I dont have any money to bring here but the only thing I am bringing is justice so that I can allow you to enjoy the resources God has given to you and we must bring both to this country and this justice is what we have come together to deliver to Niger-Delta, Thank you”.
Responding, King Timiyan, “He (the SDP flag bearer) is the first talking to us like this in our land and when you get there before 2023 when you will be in Aso Rock at Abuja, you will remember us, the people from the rural and urban area. We are all exposed and we know the secrets of everything now, not like before.
“So now that we know the good things are around, the people that we know can make use of our own things to develop us, people that can make us feel as if we are in their life but you that has found it fit to recognise us knows that there are people in Ijaw land, there are Ijaw traditional rulers and decided to see them you have done a great thing.
“There is no way we will hesitate and will give you what we have and I think God also will pity us because of the situation we found ourselves and if you know that you are the man that will salvage us, God will answer our prayers even if He refuses to answer your own, He will answer our own prayer.
“Before now, they said Ijaw people are not educated, we cannot employ them and here government is having 60% while oil companies have 40% so when the employment comes before you know it they bring their own people. Imagine in our own area where we have the terminals, we have fuel stations, you cannot see one Ijaw man speaking Ijaw as a manager in Shell or Chevron.
“That is to say Shell has existed in our area for over 50 years so when the youths need money out of frustration, the pain comes and they send militants to bombard everywhere so we are really in deep pain but I know God is over here and there is nothing that is difficult for God to do so I think this is the right time for God to help us”.
In prayers to the August visitor, King Charles Ayemi Botu prayed, “Onbehalf of the whole Ijaw nation present, let there be answers to our prayers, let God consider, let the best material rule this country, let no money bags, all those spent forces, all who have nothing left upstairs, all they know is for their own and themselves rule this country again.
“For you and your entourage wherever you people go, may God continue to guide and protect you. I am covering you people with the blood of Jesus, where ever you go let peace reign and the favour of the Lord follow all of you so that at the end of the day let the rightful and chosen candidate come and rule this country. Let God work for you so that you become the president of this country Nigeria, come 2023 and this prayer we say through Jesus Christ the Lord and Saviour. Amen.
King Botu also prayed divine support and blessings for the Delta governorship hopeful, Olorogun Gbagi, declaring that, “As the governorship candidate who is following the footstep of the first governor of Delta state, Felix Ibru through the SDP, as you are here with the Presidential candidate today that sense of direction to transform Niger-Delta of those infrastructural development meant for us which they have forgotten before will surely come to play.
“We hope that will happen when you are there and you are the rightful person so on that day, you as the rightful candidate will be at Asaba likewise we are praying for the presidential to be at the Aso Rock, Abuja, while you will also be at Osadebe House or is it Micheal Ibru House, you should be there to take charge of the state thats all we are asking for, may God grant it for you through Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. Amen, praise the Lord!
