ZIK GBEMRE CONDEMNS ASSAULT ON NIGERIA DIPLOMAT IN INDONESIA: A CRITICAL LOSS OF GLOBAL REPUTATION
• Dehumanising a Nigerian Diplomat in Indonesia is condemnable, but proofs Nigeria has lost much global respect.
• If Nigerian government at all levels could provide the good life for her citizens, there would be less room for shaming Nigerians globally.
The viral video of a Nigerian Diplomat being assaulted, dehumanised and humiliated in Indonesia by Immigration officers of that country is another sad measure of how deep Nigeria’s reputation has sunk before the international community.
Measure Nigeria, by the willful failure of successive leaderships to provide the good life and secure the future of her citizens, may not deserve much respect in the comity of nations, but that impunity displayed by the Indonesian officers, be immigration, police, or whoever, is the height of impunity in diplomatic disrespect for a fellow nation.
The Nigerian diplomat wasn’t shown to have committed any stated crime to be so humiliated. Assuming he did commit any offense, there are legitimate procedures to follow than beating up a diplomat and shaming him in public like a common criminal.
This was a global display of evil, wickedness Nigeria never needed any delay to redress. It called for finding solution to the basic question. What is the relevance of Nigeria having embassy in Indonesia, or other disrespectful nations?
Must Nigeria open embassy in every country? Nigeria needs to review its diplomatic policy with some of these contemptuous countries. And come to think of it. Indonesians move into Nigeria and are accorded red carpet reception, glorify them as white men while they humiliate Nigeria and her citizens in their country.
If a diplomat can be Beaten up by Immigration officers of Indonesia for nothing then it is a serious matter that the Federal government of the day must do something urgent to redeem its image.
Nigerian government of the day must take a drastic stand to make a stern statement of redressing this foolhardy exhibited by the Indonesian Immigration officers.
Something and not just apologising, must be done, so other edgy nations will not emulate the Indonesian Immigration.
