Minutes of Meeting:

THERE WILL BE NO MORE PROTEST ON FRIDAY 8th OF SEPTEMBER 2023, THE ISSUES WAS RESOLVED AMICABLY WITH THE DOCUMENT OF INSIGHT THE SSG SENT THROUGH THE SSA CIVIL SOCIETIES AND NGO’s to The CSO’s, NGO’s, CBO’s and Volunteers Stakeholders of Delta State for Accountability and Transparency.

Objective: To Interact with various CSO and NGO Community on Delta State Government’s plan regarding the distribution of Subsidy Palliative and to address the proposed Protest Initiated by Delta Civil Society Organisation.

Agenda:
1. Welcome Remarks and Introduction:
The host, Comr Victor Ojie, welcomed participants to the meeting and thanked them for attending the crucial online meeting. Attendees then introduced themselves and their organizations.

 

2. Objectives of the Meeting:
Comr Victor Ojie explained the objective of the meeting, emphasizing the need for attendees to share their views and provide positive advice to resolve the issues at hand.

 

3. Discussion and Deliberations:
Comr Kingsley stressed the importance of CSO and NGO members cooperating for the sake of progress and solidarity.
Comr Jonathan Giama (Delta State CDHR Chairman) asked for more information about the list requesting details of various Humanitarian NGOs on the Civil Society social media platform of Delta State.

 

Comrade Victor Ojie expressed uncertainty about the scheduled World Humanitarians Day Celebration on 5th September due to a lack of information from the Delta State Ministry for Girl Child Entrepreneur Services and Humanitarian Support. He highlighted the need to document registered NGOs for monitoring and Government partnerships.

Comrade Anthony Asakitikpi explained the reasons behind the petition and proposed protest by the Delta Civil Society Organisation. He demanded the inclusion of CSOs and NGOs in the Palliative Committee and called for proper accountability in palliative distribution.

Comrade Cletus emphasized the importance of welfare packages and feasible developmental policies for the progress of Delta State.
Attendees questioned Comr Victor Ojie about his consultation before the Palliative Committee was created, and he shared data on the distribution of palliatives.

Enddy Sunny-Udjor suggested that Developmental NGOs actively participate in Governor Sheriff’s MORE Agenda for progress.
Mr. Chibuzor Agunwa cautioned against creating panic in the state due to the upcoming Presidential election Tribunal Judgment and advised dialogue with the government to prevent security threats.

Comrade John, Comr Joan, and Comrade Godwin expressed the need for the government to do more to alleviate the people’s suffering and increase the quantity and quality of food items for distribution.

It was resolved that the CSO community would accompany Comr Anthony to the Police State HQ to seek a resolution.

The CSO community, in collaboration with the SSA on Civil Societies and NGOs, agreed to halt the protest for the safety of Delta State and the progress of the MORE Agenda.

4. Adjournment:

Comr Chibuzor Agunwa a.k.a (Mr. Dash) moved for adjournment, and Comrade Joshua seconded the motion. The meeting concluded THAT THERE WILL NO LONGER BE PROTEST BECAUSE DELTA STATE GOVERNMENT HAS RESPONDED WITH DATA ON HOW THEY PLAN TO DISTRIBUTE THESE PALLIATIVE. The SSG also gave an insight via a document presented by the SSA Civil Societies and NGO’s. The insight document presented has plans to distribute the palliative to the 25 local government areas of Delta State. Each local government will receive 696 bags of Rice. The Poor and Vulnerable House Holds, the People with Disabilities and Widows are the priorities of the Delta State Government. The CSO’s, NGO’s, CBO’s and Volunteers wants to work with His Excellency Sheriff Oborevwori and they want to key into his M.O.R.E AGENDA but they only want inclusiveness in any future committee setup by the Delta State Government.
