UNILAG Triumphs as Maden Healthcare Foundation supports Mental Health through sports at Elissa Stef Basketball League

Lagos, Nigeria – September 7, 2024. Maden Healthcare Foundation, a health-focused NGO dedicated to improving the well-being of African communities, proudly sponsored the inaugural Elissa Stef Basketball League, held on Saturday. The tournament featured university teams from four institutions, with the University of Lagos (UNILAG) winning both the men’s and women’s categories.

In line with its vision *“To lead change in achieving a healthy environment in our schools and communities in Africa by 2030,”* Maden Healthcare Foundation emphasizes the importance of sports for mental and emotional well-being. By promoting bonding, confidence-building, and stress relief, the foundation sees sports as a vital tool for fostering healthy environments, especially among students.

 

Miss Uchechi Onyeme, a representative from the Lagos State Chapter, expressed the foundation’s commitment: “The effect of sports in the form of exercise on our health cannot be over-emphasized. This event allowed us to further our mission of promoting mental and emotional health, while raising awareness of overall well-being.”

Maden Healthcare Foundation, renowned for its work in menstrual hygiene, school health, and medical missions, operates in 12 Nigerian states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. Their slogan, *”Beyond healthcare… administering with love!”* captures their holistic approach to community care and sustainable development.

The foundation celebrated the success of the Elissa Stef Basketball League and looks forward to supporting future editions, underscoring its commitment to youth development, leadership, and sportsmanship.
