Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state has charged 2173 corps members deployed to the state for national service to leave indelible marks in host communities.

Sule gave the charge during the swearing in ceremony of the 2024 Batch ‘A’ stream II set orientation course at the Magaji Dan-Yamusa NYSC Permanent orientation camp in Keffi local government area of the state on Tuesday.

Sule represented by Mr Ja’afaru Ango, Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development congratulated the corps members on successful completion of their academic pursuits which qualified them for national service.

He then charged the corps members to reflect on the weight of the responsibilities that lies on corps members and leave indelible marks on the lives of the people they will serve in communities they will be posted to.

“Your service transcends geographical boundaries. It is a bridge that connects diverse communities, fostering understanding and collaboration.

“Therefore your efforts both big and small will leave indelible marks on the lives of those you serve. Take this chance to learn, lead and leave your mark,” he said.

He also urged them to pay attention to the contents of the three weeks orientation course and by-laws of the scheme as they serve as guiding principles throughout the service year.

He said it would also provide the framework for successful and impactful service year.

Sule assured the youth corps members of the state government’s statutory responsibility to their welfare, security and general wellbeing.

The governor also commended the NYSC management, stakeholders and collaborating agencies for their dedication to service and abiding faith in the core objectives of the scheme.

“We shall continue to provide the needed support that will improve the scheme’s capacity to deliver on its mandate. Moreso I have heard your appeal and I understand the need for a 3000 capacity multipurpose hall. I hereby assure you that we would soon commence work on it.

“While wishing you a successful, hitch-free and rewarding orientation course, I enjoin you to shun vices and participate in your Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development training that will prepare you for economic development.”

In his remarks earlier, Alhaji Abdullahi Jikamshi, the NYSC Coordinator in the state, lauded the attitude of the NYSC members since the commencement of the orientation course, especially their response to training.

“They have exhibited a remarkable wave of enthusiasm, sturdiness, and affinity creating an atmosphere of unity and purpose that bodes well for the success of the orientation course,” he said.

He then urged the 2173 corps members to adhere to camp rules, respect constituted authority and actively participate in all activities.

“Seize the opportunities for personal and collective development that this orientation provides and let the spirit of discipline and patriotism guide your actions.

“Your cooperation is crucial in maintaining law and order and harmony essential for a successful orientation experience,” he added.

Jikamshi expressed gratitude to the state governor for giving a listening ear to the Chairman, NYSC Governing Board and the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development over the needs of the NYSC in the state.

“We look forward to your administration’s kind consideration and intervention as regards the construction of the 3000 capacity multi-purpose hall and more staff hostels.” he said.
