…adorns Lawmakers with Purple Ribbons

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) on Tuesday extended its SGBV advocacy to the State House of Assembly as part of activities commemorating Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Awareness Month.

Adorning members of the Lagos State House of Assembly with purple ribbons, the Executive Secretary of DSVA, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi thanked the Honourable members of the House for the opportunity to adorn them with purple ribbons which symbolise and depict domestic violence awareness.

She said, “This event is symbolic in the commemoration of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month which has been designated for September in keeping up with the statutory mandate of heightening awareness and ensuring residents of Lagos are appropriately informed about the issues of SGBV, penalties when flouted and existing support services for victims”.

 

Whilst appreciating the House for their commitment and dedication to the fight against Sexual and Gender Based Violence, Vivour-Adeniyi appreciated the House for their support and commitment towards ensuring a Lagos State, free from all forms of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence.

“We, however, solicit for your continuous support in ensuring that the relevant criminal laws on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence are passed and implemented till we rid our dear State of all forms of abuse and SGBV”, Vivour-Adeniyi noted.

Hon. Saad Lukman Olumoh, Chairman of the Ad Hoc Committee, reiterated the House of Assembly’s commitment towards ensuring the menace is reduced to the barest minimum even as he reassured of the House of Assembly’s continued support in the fight against the menace through the enactment and promulgation of laws that are geared towards mitigating the menace.

On her part, the Chairman, House Committee on Women Affairs, Hon. Princess Omolara Oyekan Olumegbon and other distinguished members of the House proffered various suggestions that are critical in ensuring the war against Sexual and Gender-Based Violence is won.
