The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has cleared air on the news on Suspension of O’Pay and Palmpay platforms.

 

This was countered by the acting Director, of Corporate Communications of CBN, Isa AbdulMumin, on 24th of March 2023, in Abuja portrayed the news that has gone viral as “simply fake’’.

Though the news report which was presented to AbdulMumin claimed that the Central Bank of Nigeria was about to suspend accounts of the Fintech companies because they were being used to execute fraud.

 

The fake new reads, “Please if you are using OPAY, PALMPAY, or any of these CHINA APPs or their POS, stop keeping much money in the account or stop using it”, the viral news reads

 

The report further adds that PALMPAY and OPAY had in different social media messages renounced being under the radar of the CBN.

 

“PALMPAY had stated, “We are aware of news currently being spread on social media about CBN shutting down the operations of PALMPAY” while OPAY had posted “the post mentioning the CBN shutting down our operations is false and misleading to the general public”.

 

To this end CBN has described such trending news on social media that it has suspended the accounts of some financial technology (fintech) companies as fake, general public should take note.
