Sad as Fire Razes Over 1000 Houses at IDP Camp in Borno

From Reports, the fire began at about 6am and lasted for over an hour though also was put under control by the fire service personnel.

Unfortunately, some of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) was said to have lost their lives while more than 1,000 houses got burnt when fire swept through Muna Alamdari Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

According to the Director General of the State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Barkindo Muhammad, who said on Wednesday in Maiduguri that the IDPs, Civilian Joint Task Force, security agencies and some good Samaritans also assisted in putting out the fire.

However, Muhammad also said that the agency has commenced an assessment of the damages while making efforts to provide immediate humanitarian support to the victims.

“We are immediately providing 500 bags of rice, blankets as well as other non-food items to mitigate their suffering,” the DG said.
