Newly Appointed CP Threatens To Fire Bribe-Seeking Policemen

The new Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Tony Olofu, has warned police personnel in the command to shun bribery or face dismissal.

Olofu who assumed duty in the state about a week ago made this statement at his inaugural press conference at the Amawbia Police Command Headquarters in the Awka South Local Government Area of the state.

He urged members of the public to report erring officers to the command for appropriate sanction.
The CP said, “I am firm in my belief that every resident or visitor to Anambra State deserves to be treated decently in line with the policing principles handed down by the Inspector Generally of Police, Alkali Baba Usman. The Command under my watch shall take drastic measures in crime prevention across the state.”

He listed major crimes in the state to include armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, disputes over land; kingship tussles, boundary issues, farmers/herders clashes, public disturbances, attacks on unsuspecting members of the public, security personnel, government infrastructures and sundry offences.

“I am not unmindful of other challenges bordering on professional misconduct on the part of our officers and men such as extortion, unlawful detention and incivility to members of the public among others. Undoubtedly, the command has been bold in confronting these challenges and indeed recorded several successes in curbing some of these crimes.

“To this end, the command shall enhance have crime-fighting strategies that will be more proactive to dominate the public space and checkmate acts of criminality in the state”, the CP stated.
