The Lagos State Women Development Centre (WDC), Agege has organised an orientation programme for its newly admitted students in different training courses held recently at the Facility’s Hall.
In her welcome address, the Director of the Women Development Centre (WDC), Mrs. Olufunke Adeleye emphasised the importance of the training and the role it plays in driving innovation and excellence in Lagos State.
The Centre, she said, was established in 1993 and began operation in 1999 to alleviate poverty and empower the youths to be self-dependent.
According to her, “With over 500 students and seven training classes including Photography, Fashion Designing, and Hairdressing amongst others, the programme is aimed at inculcating in students the requisite knowledge and skills needed for success in their respective career paths. Participants would be engaged in a dynamic curriculum designed to provide them with a deep understanding of the centre’s values, culture and operations”.
She said the Centre reaffirms its dedication to investing in its talent and empowering youths to reach new heights of achievement. These bright minds set out to apply their newfound skills and knowledge and the future looks brighter than ever for both the individuals and Lagos State.
“Participants are expected to leave the venue with a newfound sense of confidence and readiness to make a meaningful impact. Armed with a wealth of knowledge, they are poised to excel in their roles and contribute to the continued success of the centre and Lagos State as a Centre of Excellence”, Adeleye said.
A student of fashion design, Mrs. Tosin Muhammad said, “I am excited to be part of such a vibrant and forward-thinking organisation. The orientation has been incredibly insightful and this is my second time coming back to the centre. My first training was in Hairdressing and I am back to learn Fashion Designing for one year. I am looking forward to applying what I have learnt as I embark on this new chapter of my life”.
Another participant, Miss Ayo Beauty said, “I want to appreciate the centre for the admission opportunity. I have always wanted to be a fashion designer and at the end of the training, I hope to be able to make my clothes and make for others”.
