He further urged prospective owners/developers to imbibe the culture of voluntary compliance by voluntarily approaching the Authority to obtain their planning permits and abide by the regulations therein.

In his words; “Voluntary compliance to physical planning permit laws comes with considerable benefits such as saving time that would have been used in coming to resolve issues when sanctions are imposed on non-conforming properties, saving applicants the psychological trauma experienced when properties without planning permit are sealed up”.

The General Manager added that voluntary compliance also saves costs that would’ve been used in paying penal fees when such are imposed for noncompliance.

Also speaking at the occasion, one of the Directors of the Authority, Tpl. Kikelomo Ashogbon, outlined some of the causes of delays in the processing of planning permits to include incomplete documentation at the point of application, inability to pay tax, engagement of third parties and engagement of the services of touts among others.

While receiving his planning permit, Mr. Oladejo expressed his delight at the promptness of the processing of his application. He said, “The prompt response has debunked the belief by members of his Association, the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN), that planning permit applications cannot be processed in such a short period”.

He promised to go back to his Association and inform others that applications can indeed be granted speedily once the applicant fulfils their obligations as and when due.
