Recently, the Benue state chapter of the Academic Staff Union Of University, ASUU has embarked today Friday May 26, 2023 on indefinite strike.
It was gathered that the university is yet to resume since Friday preventing students and members if the staff to gain access into the school premises of the two campuses.
The BSU ASUU chairman, Dr. Kwaehifan Tarmombo confirmed the development.
According to the chairman, the strike is indefinite, total and comprehensive though he is yet to disclose the cause of the strike but mentioned that it was due to “several problems” facing the university administration.
However, a senior lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication Dr. John Ogi threw more light to the causative factor, disclosing that the university management locked the gates to prevent ASUU members having their scheduled Congress.
He said, “The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Benue state branch at the early hours of friday scheduled a congress which was to brief members if the directives from National Branch of ASUU.
“On getting the gates of the university this morning, all entrance of the university were under lock to prevent ASSU members from gaining enterance into the campus.
“The drama which went on for few minutes at the gate necessitated to the declaration of strike action at the gate.
“The Chairman ASUU BSU made the pronouncement of the strike and the ASUU members huming the solidarity song.
