Speaking during the Swearing-in Ceremony of the 2023 Batch B, Stream 1 orientation course for Corps Members deployed to Rivers State at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Nonwa-Gbam, Tai LGA on Friday, 14th July, Governor Fubara emphasized that, his administration will advance the NYSC scheme and continue to prioritize the security and welfare of corps members posted to the State.

The Governor, who was represented by the Commissioner of Youth Development, Dr. Kenneth Chisom Gbali, charged the Corp members to fulfill the aspirations of Nigerians by offering their selfless services in their various places of primary assignment.

“I charge you today as vanguards of positive change to bring your expertise, ingenuity, energy, resourcefulness and passion to the table as you bring about more quality of life to Rivers people.

“As one of the most enlightened stratum of the society, I charge you to lead from the front in the fight against societal evils.

“As the nation goes through teething problems of evolving into a peaceful, prosperous and egalitarian society, you must display exemplary character and conduct at all times in order to influence and drive positive society,” he stressed.

The Governor appreciated the successive management of the scheme for their conscious efforts in the last 50 years and for sustaining the legacies of the scheme’s founding fathers. He also thanked the good people of Ogoni, especially the Nonwa-Gbam Tai leaders and stakeholders for creating a peaceful and convivial atmosphere for successive orientation exercises over the years.

Earlier, the coordinator of NYSC, Rivers State, Mr. George Mfongang thanked Governor Fubara for his unflinching support and prioritizing the needs of the NYSC in the State.

He added that the continuous monthly allowance to corps members, provision of logistics to the secretariat, renovation of official quarters and dinning hall, provision of two 250KVA generators, 500KVA transformers and the provision of 5000 capacity auditorium, which he says is best in any orientation camp, nation wide, spoke loudly of the state government’s huge support.

He urged corps members to follow seriously the regimented programs on camp as such activities will harness their innate potentials and unique abilities to help them function well in the larger society as leaders.

“I entreat you to respect constituted authority and obey camp rules and regulations. Likewise, take the security, language, and skill acquisition programs seriously in order to enrich yourselves and become better you”, he said.
