Kai Havertz was the star of the match as Chelsea defeated Bournemouth 2-0 at the Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night to return to winning ways.

Having lost their last three matches in the league, two goals from Havertz and Mason Mount were enough to hand The Blues their first Premier League win since October.

Havertz opened the scoring for Chelsea in the 16th minute with a tap-in from Raheem Sterling’s clean assist from the top side of the pitch before Mount doubled the lead with a wonderful curler eight minutes later.

Towards the end of the first time, Havertz scored Chelsea’s third goal of the encounter but it was ruled out for a Bournemouth freekick despite VAR intervention.

Recce James returned to action for the first time since October ended abruptly in the 53rd minute when he was substituted for César Azipilicueta following an apparent discomfort.

Jaidon Anthony almost pulled one back for Bournemouth just on the hour mark when he latched onto the loose ball but was deflected into the hands of goalkeeper Kepa Arizzabalaga.

Both sides launched several attempts to find the back of the net in the second half, including two attempts by Anthony from a free-kick that was saved by Kepa and a wasted header by Dominic Solanke in search of a Bournemouth late consolation.

Graham Potter’s team clinched the maximum three points after 95 minutes of intense play to end their five matches winless run in the league.
