EKITI ROADS STRATEGICALLY DESIGNED TO ENSURE SAFETY – OLATUNBOSUN

Ekiti State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. @tfolatunbosun has said that the road network being constructed by the state government was strategically designed towards ensuring safety of motorists and other road users as well as reducing avoidable traffic congestion in the urban areas.

Olatunbosun also said that the Biodun Oyebanji would continue to partner willing individuals and corporate organizations in the efforts at developing the State and improving the lots of the people.

 

Speaking during a sensitization programme organized by the Rotary Club International for Commercial motorcyclists also known as ‘Okada Riders’ in Ado Ekiti, Olatunbosun described any effort to boost safety measures on the roads as welcomed.

 

Olatunbosun who is also a Rotarian, explained that the club, in tandem with road infrastructure agenda of the Biodun Oyebanji administration, organized the sensitization programme for the commercial cyclists in the State to stem mishaps on the road and protect lives and property of road users.

 

He said that the cyclists were also provided with reflective jackets as part of the safety measures, adding that it would make them more visible, particularly at night.

 

The commissioner solicited the support of other responsible individuals and corporate organizations for efforts of government at moving the State forward, stressing that development of the State should be seen as a collective responsibility.

 

Olatunbosun however solicited for the support and cooporation of the association to compliment government’s effort in ensuring the safety of life and properties.

 

In his remarks, the District Governor of Rotary Club 9125, Mr. Segab Ahmed stressed the importance of regular sensitization of commercial drivers and cyclists, particularly towards the end of the year that traffic is always very busy.

 

Mr. Ahmed urged participants to judiciously utilize knowledge acquired during the programme, adding that no effort is too much to make the roads safe.

The President of Rotary Club New Dawn, Ado Ekiti, Rotarian Emmanuel Oluwafemi, in his comments, said that the club would continue to collaborate with the State Government and support efforts to improve the lives of the people and make the world a better place to live in.

 

In his response, the Chairman, Ekiti State Okada Riders Association, Com. Kunle Asaolu applauded the Ekiti State Government and the Rotary Club International for efforts at making their life worth living.

 

Asaolu called on other individuals and corporate Non-Governmental Organizations to emulate such gesture of the Rotary Club which he described as laudable.

 

He pledged to continue to support all efforts at making the roads safe for users, adding that knowledge impacted on them would be judiciously used.

 

Facilitators at the programme included representatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Nigeria Police Force led by Assistant Corp Marshal Dolapo Balogun and the Divisional Police Officer, Okesha Police Station, CSP Adekunle Obabusayo.
