We have two type of Court of Marriage in Nigeria under the law.
They are:
1. Statutory Marriage
2. Customary Marriage
The Statutory marriage is purely monogamous in nature. The husband cannot proceed to marry another wife or even have a girlfriend after the finalization of the marriage, a second wife at the subsistence of the first marriage.
Conversely, the Customary marriage is one which gives the liberty to the husband to marry more than one wife, either simultaneously or successively.
