Dangote Immortalizes Late Herbert Wigwe…see details

Topmost Nigerian billionaire, founder of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote has presently named the road leading to his oil refinery after Herbert Wigwe, as a way to immortalise the late businessman.

 

Wigwe was the group chief executive officer (GCEO) of Access Holdings Plc, a Nigerian financial institution.

Dangote revealed this while paying homage to Wigwe during a tribute by professionals on Monday.

 

Hear him, “To immortalise my beloved friend, my brother, and my mentee, I have actually decided to name a major refinery and petrochemical road, out of the 120 kilometers, the biggest road will now be named ‘Herbert Wigwe,” he said

 

Having Wigwe, alongside his wife, son, and Abimbola Ogunbanjo, the former group chairman of the Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group), were involved in a helicopter crash in the United States on February 10, 2024 was a huge loss to the nation.

 

All six passengers onboard the Eurocopter EC130 helicopter died.

 

The Eurocopter EC130 helicopter conveying them crashed around 10 pm on Friday in California — 7 am on Saturday in Nigeria — near the Nevada border.

 

Meanwhile, before his death, Wigwe was also the founder of Wigwe University.

 

He was the deputy managing director at Access Bank from 2002 to 2014 when he became the group managing director and CEO.

 

Wigwe served as the chairman of Access Bank (Ghana), Access Investment & Securities Limited, Central Securities and Clearing System (CSCS) and presently as chairman of Access Bank (UK) Limited and Unified Payments Services Limited.
