Ekiti State Commissioner for Health, Dr Oyebanji Filani, said on Friday that following arrival of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccines in Ekiti, the state government had begun the second phase of vaccination across the 16 council areas.

Oyebanji, who said the Moderna vaccines were for those who had not been vaccinated at all during the first phase, advised that “anyone who has received the first dose of Astra-Zeneca vaccines should wait for the second dose that would arrive soon”.

The commissioner, who spoke in Ado Ekiti during an sensitization programme on COVID-19 vaccines in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, urged residents who had not received any jab during the first phase to seize the opportunity to be vaccinated, adding that the rate of spread of the virus in the state had made it a necessity for residents to get vaccinated.

He said, “People in Ekiti State are hereby urged to take the advantage of government’s gesture and get vaccinated. Getting immunized remains the most effective way to curtail the virus.

“The vaccine has been certified safe, effective and efficient in guarding against the virus. It has no negative effects. Just as the state government is commitment to curtailing spread of the virus in the state, it has made arrangement to ensure that all residents have unfettered access to the safe and effective vaccines.

“The Modena vaccines are for eligible residents who haven’t received any jab of COVID-19 vaccination,” he said.
