In the heart of Ozuboko community in Port Harcourt Local Government area, Rivers State, the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt City Valley has made waves with its skills acquisition programme, a beacon of empowerment that has illuminated the paths of countless individuals since its Charter in 1999.

Under the adept leadership of Rtn Captain Paul Ojinta, a major donor of The Rotary Foundation, the skills acquisition programme has become synonymous with hope, growth, and the socio-economic upliftment of the Ozuboko community.

Offering a diverse range of training opportunities, in specialised vocational skills in, Fascinator Making, Soap making, Used Tyre to make Furniture and Antiseptic production, etc , the programme is a comprehensive toolkit for those looking to navigate today’s challenging job market.

“Our goal is to foster not only professional skills but also personal development, ensuring our participants are well-rounded and ready to tackle the future. Moreso, this project is also aimed at fulfilling one of Rotary’s initiative of empowering the community and creating hope in the world”, said Captain Paul, the President of the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt City Valley and driving force behind the programme’s continued success.

 

“This initiative stands out for its breadth of learning opportunities and its inclusive approach, warmly welcoming individuals from all walks of life, especially those from underprivileged communities. Over the years, the Skills Programme has been a transformative force, reshaping lives and contributing to the broader socio-economic fabric of rural communities we have impacted in Rivers State”, he said.

On his part, the Ozuboko Community Development Chairman in his remarks said “ensuring bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, this programme goes beyond technical skills, emphasising leadership, communication, and teamwork. This holistic approach prepares participants for many career paths and entrepreneurial ventures, equipping them with the tools needed for success”.

“The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt City Valley remains unwavering in its commitment to this vital initiative, inspired by past achievements and the untapped potential to influence even more lives positively, according to Chimdirimnma Diala, the Charter President of club.

As Ozuboko community continues to grow and evolve, the skills acquisition programme is a testament to what can be accomplished when compassion, dedication, and community come together.

Our correspondent reports that starter packs were presented to the fifteen beneficiaries of the training to set up their own businesses.
