Though the British-Nigerian heavyweight had great control of the match against the American, many expected the fight to end earlier.

The two-time world champion was declared winner of the match with the judges scorecards reading 118-111, 117-111, 117-111.

However, Joshua’s claimed victory with a series of uppercuts inflicting great damage on Franklin but the American took all the hits boldly without falling.

And this is a record breaking as Joshua’s first win in more than two years, following back to back loses to Oleksandr Usyk.

In excitement Joshua expressed;

“It was important to win. Jermaine has a good duck-and-dive style, somebody else from Britain will probably knock him out,” Joshua said.

“I respect him, he did well. I should have knocked him out but it is done. On to the next. He is here to prove himself, not roll over. I wish I could have knocked him out.”

This time, Joshua’s career fights now read 25 fights, 22 stoppages, and three losses since turning professional in 2013 while this marks Franklin’s second consecutive defeat following a loss to Briton Dillian Whyte last November.
