BOOM: See Main Reason UK Slam Embrgo On Recruitment Of Health And Social Care Officers From Nigeria.
The United Kingdom has place embargo on recruitment of medical and laboratory officers which includes doctors, nurses and others.
This development was disclosed recently one month after Nigeria was listed among the 55 countries of the world facing the most pressing health workforce challenges related to universal health coverage by the World Health Organisation.
However, this embargo made Nigeria to be on the red list among countries where recruitment of Health workers will no longer be possible unless both countries government reach agreement to do so.
Following the information revealed on the website of the United Kingdom government titled, “Code of Practice for the International recruitment of Health and Social care personnel in England,’ it said country identification follows the methodology contained in the 10 year review of relevance and effectiveness of the WHO global code of practice on the International Recruitment of Health Personnel.
“Countries on the WHO Health Workforce Support and Safeguard list are graded red in the code. If a government-to-government agreement is put in place between a partner country, which restricts recruiting organisations to the terms of the agreement, the country is added to the list.
It also said if a country was not on the red or amber list then it is green and the only countries permitted in compliance to the government-to-government agreement are Nepal and Kenya
