Tributes continue to pour in as many Nigerians celebrate the impactful contributions to national development of civil rights activist Ariyo-Dare Atoye who died yesterday.
“We are devastated and heartbroken with the news of the demise of our fellow compatriot and brother in the struggle, @AriyoAristotle.,” civil rights group, YIAGA tweeted.
Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, described him as a patriot and an activist filled with energy and passion.
“Mr Ariyo Atoye was a patriot, an activist, and a loyal member of our great party, the PDP. I just received report of his death after a protracted battle with lung cancer. He was a young man filled with energy and passion.
“My thoughts and prayers are with his family, his friends and his loved ones. May his soul rest in peace. -AA,” he wrote via his Twitter account.
Front-line law professor, Chidi Odinkalu, also appreciated the late organiser. “Thank you, @AriyoAristotle for everything. May the angels accompany you into eternal peace,” he also wrote on his Twitter.
Mr Ariyo-Dare’s death was described as unfortunate by human rights activist Ndi Kato. “After fighting for electoral reforms for all of us, you didn’t wait to see it happen live. Ahhhhh @AriyoAristotle,” he wrote.
Mr Atoye died of lung cancer amidst plan to fly him outside the country for better health treatment.
