The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic and the Federal Government would be meeting in court on Thursday (today) over the appointment of five rectors tagged as unqualified by the union.

The National President, Anderson Ezeibe, disclosed this in an interview with The PUNCH on Wednesday.

The PUNCH had reported that the union, during its 100th National Executive Council meeting held in Benin City, had accused the Federal Government of appointing five rectors, who were not qualified.

During the meeting, Anderson had said “The union is already in court with the Federal Government on the matter.

“We have already served them, the appointing authority; that is the Presidency, through substituted means in one of the national dailies.

“And we have got an order of court to serve them by substituted means and of course, to join these five persons appointed as rectors into these polytechnics.”

However, Ezeibe, on Wednesday, said, “We are meeting with the FG at the Industrial Court tomorrow (Thursday) as regards the law suit over the appointment of the five unqualified rectors.

“It is also sad to know that up till now, the Federal Government has not reached out concerning the revitalisation fund and the salary arrears of our members. Nothing has been said. We will take things up after the court case tomorrow; we are taking things one step at a time.”
