Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has raised concerns over alleged regional imbalance in the leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a post on X on Monday, September 15, Ahmad highlighted that of the 12 chairmen who have led INEC since its inception, 10 have come from the South while only two have been from the North.

He wrote: “This stark imbalance should raise questions about equitable representation in one of Nigeria’s most critical democratic institutions.”
