Arsenal have completed the signing of Spanish custodian David Raya from Brentford on loan with the option to buy next summer.

Raya, a former Brentford player, informed the Bees that he will not be renewing his contract, which was set to expire in 2024. The Spaniard chose to quit the club this summer rather than move for free the following summer. Tottenham Hotspur were interested in the 27-year-old, reaching an agreement on personal terms with him but failed to complete his deal due to a lack of funds. Instead, Spurs signed Italian custodian Guglielmo Vicario for around half the fee reported for Raya.

Despite heavy interest from Bayern Munich, Arsenal stepped up to recruit Raya on a season-long loan for £3 million, with an option to buy for about £27 million.JAMB Result

Raya has long been a target for the Gunners, who tried and failed to sign him four years ago. While at the GTech Community Stadium, the 27-year-old developed and refined his game, and he will compete with Aaron Ramsdale at the Emirates Stadium.

Raya has taken over the number 22 shirt from Matt Turner, who left Arsenal for Nottingham Forest around a week ago.
