It is reported that Nigerian police officers were used by the officials of Delta state Ministry Of Urban Renewal and Ministry of Land and Survey to illegally demolish properties belonging to Mr India Osanebi and Dr Prosper Oresimena at Airaboyi Close, Off Jesus Is Lord Street, Off Refinery Road, Effurun, Delta State.
It was said a court action with suit number EHC/100/2024 was filed against the Delta Ministry of Urban Renewal, Ministry of Lands and Survey and Delta State Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice at the Delta State High Court 2 Effurun being presided over by Justice R.D. Harriman and interim injunction was granted on Friday 24th May, 2024 by the said court and yet demolition was carried on the properties belonging to Mr India Osanebi a retiree and Dr Prosper Oresimena.
My worry is the illegality of the action of the Nigerian Police officers and Officials of Delta State govt at the Ministry of Urban Renewal and Ministry of Lands and Survey. Any demolition of property matter that is in court that is pending must be disposed off before demolition of said property can take place.
Even in this case as reported there is a restraining order of Effurun High Court 2 in Delta state so why the haste to undermine the rule of law. Democracy is about the rule of law. All state governors and president of the government of the day were confirmed by Supreme Court so why the same people are undermining the court of law.
How will investors be attracted to a place where court orders and proceedings are undermined? This is not a good signal that courts are being undermined by a government led by Gov Sheriff Oborevwori that is a beneficiary of court verdicts.
Without court verdict in his favour Gov Oborevwori wouldn’t have been there as the sitting governor of Delta state. It is shameful that Police that should enforce law and order are the same people breaking the law as it was reported in the demolition of the properties belonging to Osanebi and Oresimena.
This culture of undermining court by Delta State government must stop.
I condemn the action of the police to allow them to be used by politicians in power in Delta.
