‘Nothing we no dey hear for this country’. What has the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun (FUPRE) got to do with giving awards outside its academic scope and least of all giving an award to TANTITA, a security company of ex-militant, Tompolo that its relationship and motive with NNPC LTD is yet to be clarified?
What evidence does FUPRE have to show to the public that oil theft has reduced to its barest minimum because Tompolo has a racket pipelines security contract? When the drama of the contract started, they said the predetermined discovery of a huge tapping point increased production to 1.2mbpd.
Today, with Tompolo and co-militant leaders enjoying the multibillion naira contracts, oil theft has resurged, dropping production to an alarming 900mbpd. Is it not shameful that a university set up to train and mold quality engineers in the petroleum sector has reduced itself to glorifying ex-militants with racket awards outside its core mandate.
For the Chief Operating Officer of NUPRC to be involved in this show of shame is even more laughable.
It is also shameful that a Vice Chancellor of FUPRE will render himself available to give a security award to a supposed security company in such a drama.
FUPRE under the current VC is appalling, a disgrace to public higher institutions of learning in Nigeria.
