ZIK GBEMRE CONDEMNS GOVERNOR OKOWA’S ATTACK ON PETER OBI OVER VISITS TO CHURCHES – MORE LIKE THE KETTLE CALLING THE POT BLACK
Governor Okowa should “first take the plank out of his own eye, and then he will see clearly to remove the speck from his brother’s eye...”
While this is not to speak for, or on behalf of, or in favour of Peter Obi, I consider it laughable that the Delta State Governor, and Vice-Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, would publicly accuse the said presidential candidate of the Labour Party (Peter Obi), of whipping up sentiments through the church.
Regardless of the fact that Obi, whose popularity has kept on spreading across the country, has made several visits to churches where he was warmly received, that to me, should not be an issue for other political candidates in next year’s elections. What they should all focus on is being able to convince Nigerians that the manifestos they are bringing on board as we prepare for the 2023 general elections, would positively impact the lives of the common man. They should all focus on the issues plaguing the country.
It is high time Nigerian politicians should stop the practice of ‘dirty politicking.’ Where they only focus on belittling and ridiculing their political opponents, rather than focus on “how they would address the numerous problems facing the Nigerian people.
Having said that, the bottom line here is the fact that Governor Okowa does not have the audacity, and the moral standing to question Peter Obi’s visits to churches. It is more like the kettle calling the pot black. If anything, the likes of Governor Okowa, as well as his fellow Politicians of the ruling PDP in Delta State, are the ones at the forefront, and chieftains of those who are very good at going to Churches for either their fake Thanksgivings or to clamour for political support.
A word of advice to Governor Okowa, as noted in the Holy Bible in Mathew 5:7 “You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”
We have seen this play out every now and then in Delta State politics since 1999 till date. We have seen this same Governor Okowa going to church with his supporters on countless occasions to do their usual ‘fake Thanksgivings’, especially after their normalized practice of vote buying – which was witnessed in the last PDP presidential/guber primaries.
It is just sad that the subject of ‘Religion’ has always been a factor used by politicians in Nigeria to play with the minds and emotions of the people just to have their way. I only hope that the people themselves will wise up, and not allow themselves to be fooled by any politician this time around, especially as we look forward to the 2023 general elections. Until we move away from ethnicity, religion and selfish-interest-ridden factors in electing political leaders, we will never get the RIGHT PEOPLE on merit in places of Government.
