Award-winning Afropop singer Yemi Alade has been robbed in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, where she performed at a 3-day continental creative event over the weekend.
In a post on her verified Instagram page on Monday, the singer lamented how unknown individuals broke into her hotel room and carted away some items and money a few minutes after leaving her room.
She wrote: “A few minutes after I left my room, some unknown people decided to go through my things and steal: all the money they could find. Very good.”
Responding to messages of well-wishers, Alade said the incident was being investigated by the hotel management, but expressed doubt that her money would be recovered.
“They are investigating, looking through cameras and all but I know the money is all gone by now,” she posted before adding that “The suspects are all denying.”
The ‘Johnny’ crooner recently travelled to the West African country to perform at the Creative Africa Nexus Weekend (CANEX WKND).
It was a 3-day gathering of creatives from Africa and the diaspora, hosted by the and the Government of Côte d’voire.
