Quadri Aruna is through to the quarterfinals of the 2023 World Tennis Tennis (WTT) Contender championship in Durban following a narrow 3-2 victory over France’s Felix Lebrun on Friday afternoon.
Aruna had qualified for the round of 16 tie against Lebrun after the Nigerian emphatic 3-1 win against Sun Wen of China in his opening game of the competition on Thursday in South Africa.

At the Olive Convention Centre today, Aruna found himself behind after losing the first set 11-3 to the French, but Africa’s best tennis player fought to win the second set 11-6.
Once again, the Nigerian fell behind in the third set, with the 16-year-old clinching the set 12-10, but rejuvenated Aruna won the fourth and the fifth set 15-13 and 11-5, respectively, to secure a victory and a place in the last eight of competition.
The 34-year-old will now face Ukraine’s Yaroslav Zhmudenko in the quarterfinals of this year’s WTT Contender.
