Argentina captain, Lionel Messi, has said he is “angry” because he missed a penalty against Poland in their final group game at the World Cup.
Albiceleste were awarded a penalty in the first half, after Woijiech Szczesny was adjudged to have fouled Messi.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward, however, saw his kick saved and the scores remained 0-0.
However, two second-half strikes from Alexis Mac Allister and Julian Alvarez ensured Argentina qualified as group winners.
After the game, Messi said: “[I’m] angry for having missed the penalty but the team came out stronger after my mistake.
“We knew that once the first goal went in, it would change the game.”
Argentina will now face Australia in the Round of 16.
“The match against Australia is going to be very difficult.
“Anyone can beat anyone, it’s all even. We have to prepare for the game as we always do,” Messi added.
