A workshop centered on human rights and the professional conduct of military personnel was held on September 24, 2024, at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Auditorium in the Nigerian Army School of Artillery (NASA). The event continued on September 25 at the Officers’ Mess Auditorium of the Nigerian Army School of Military Engineering (NASME) in Makurdi, where students and instructors from NASA, NASME, and the Nigerian Army College of Environmental Science and Technology (NACEST) participated.
In his opening remarks, the Chief of Civil Military Affairs (CCMA), Maj Gen Nosakhare Ugbo, emphasized how the workshop aligns with the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy. He underscored the necessity of providing personnel with the foundational knowledge required to function within legal frameworks.
The workshop featured two important presentations: “International Humanitarian Law – Law of War” delivered by GP Capt SG Shehu (rtd) and “Human Rights and the Professional Conduct of NA Personnel in All Situations” presented by Civil Military Affairs Desk Officer (CMLDO) – AHQ DCMA. Both sessions included interactive discussions that linked legal principles to practical military operations and administration.
In his closing remarks, the CCMA urged all personnel to stay dedicated to their duties while consistently upholding human rights and maintaining professional conduct. He assured them of the Nigerian Army’s unwavering support for their legitimate responsibilities
