The Management of Rivers State University has ordered the immediate suspension of the 2023 SUG WEEK after a student lost his life during the JEAN CARNIVAL.
The registrar of the university, Dr. Sydney Enyindah, announced the suspension of other activities marking the students’ week in an internal memo obtained by our correspondent in Port-Harcourt.
The memo states, “Following the unfortunate and sad incident which occurred during the “Jeans Carnival” on Tuesday 5th September 2023, resulting in the death of a student, the Management of the University has directed the immediate suspension of the remaining activities of the Student Union Week.”
According to an eyewitness, the student was sitting on the window side of a moving vehicle during the jeans carnival when he lost his balance and fell. He was rushed to the hospital, but he died from his injuries.
But the parent of the deceased fresh student who’s identity is yet to be ascertain, is suspecting a foul play. The deceased mum in a video she was seen crying and calling on the authority of the school to carry out a thorough investigation into her son’s death.
Meanwhile the Students’ Union Government has frowned over the sudden suspension of the Students’ Week.
The SUG on its social media handle said the suspension was unnecessary.
