Professor Charity Justin Takyun, a Professor of Medical and Health Psychology in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Federal University of Lafia, has described mental illness as one of the most challenging conditions in human existence.
She, however, outlined solutions for overcoming this challenge at the 40th Inaugural lecture of Federal University of Lafia titled “Navigating Life’s Challenges: Understanding and Addressing Mental Illnesses.”
The event took place at the university’s Multipurpose Hall recently.
Delivering her lecture, Professor Takyun stated that everyone goes through difficult times and that it is natural to feel negative emotions when faced with challenges.
She emphasized that life’s challenges can impact well-being and health, and addressing them requires proactive steps to improve overall health.
She further highlighted both the negative and positive impacts of these challenges and offered practical solutions, urging guests, students, and the public to take her recommendations seriously.
Her lecture spanned over 90 pages and was delivered in the presence of the Vice-Chancellor and other top university scholars.
In his opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shehu Rahman, warmly welcomed guests to the historic event which he described as a university tradition.
He noted that the lecture serves as a platform for professors to share their experiences and achievements in research, innovation, engagement, and teaching.
“Professor Charity is an outstanding scholar presenting the first inaugural lecture from the Department of Psychology of this university.
“I therefore congratulate her, the Department of Psychology, and the Faculty of Social Sciences on this achievement.”He added.
Professor Rahman averred that Professor Takyun is one of the finest researchers in recent times, known for her dedication to her profession and her students.
Our reporter reports that the event was marked by the presentation of an award plaque, officially recognizing Professor Charity Justin Takyun as a full professor.
