U.S. Congressman Riley Moore has praised the Nigerian government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for its recent rescue of approximately 100 abducted Catholic school children, calling the operation a sign of progress in the country’s security response.
In a statement on December 8, 2025, Moore said, “I want to thank the Nigerian government for rescuing the 100 innocent and precious Catholic school children. This is a positive demonstration of the government’s increasing response to the security situation and shows commitment to the emergency declaration laid out by President Tinubu.”

He noted that the rescue reflects the impact of Nigeria’s state of emergency on insecurity, highlighting the rapid deployment of security forces to protect vulnerable citizens. Moore also praised growing cooperation between Abuja and Washington on counter-terrorism matters, while emphasizing that sustained action is needed: “Now, that openness has to translate to concrete action.”

The congressman’s remarks come amid heightened U.S. congressional attention to kidnappings, banditry, and religious persecution in northern and central Nigeria. Nigerian officials described the operation as proof that coordinated intelligence and decisive action can disrupt criminal networks without paying ransoms.
