Twitter has started testing a new feature that lets users co-author tweets. The CoTweets feature allows two users to co-author a tweet and both be tagged in a single tweet.

“We’re continuing to explore new ways for people to collaborate on Twitter,” a spokesperson for Twitter said to TechCrunch. “We’re testing CoTweets for a limited time to learn how people and brands may use this feature to grow and reach new audiences, and strengthen their collaborations with other accounts.”

The feature is being tested with select accounts in the United States, Canada and Korea for now. The social media company told TechCrunch that the trial is to observe how users will use it.

The feature will allow users to decide the content they’d like to share. Once the intended message is ready, one author creates the CoTweet and initiates an invite to the co-author. When the co-author accepts the CoTweet invitation, the CoTweet immediately posts to each author’s profile and both of their followers’ timelines.

The CoTweet feature is the latest feature Twitter has added to optimise its service over the past year. It launched the Twitter Circle feature, which allows users to create smaller exclusive timelines and the company has hinted at working on an edit button for the service.
