Soun Of Ogbomoso: Court Restrains Makinde from Presenting Staff of Office To Pastor Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye
An Oyo State High Court in Ogbomoso has issued a restraining order against Governor Seyi Makinde, the Attorney General, and the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters. The order prohibits them from presenting any instrument of office or conducting any ceremony to install Pastor Afolabi Ghandi Oladunni Olaoye as the new Soun of Ogbomoso land. The court order will remain in effect until the mandatory injunction filed before the court is heard and finally determined.
The ruling was made by Justice K.A Adedokun in response to a motion ex-parte filed by Prince Muhammed Kabir Olaoye, one of the contenders for the Soun of Ogbomoso stool. Justice Adedokun also ordered that Pastor Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye be restrained from representing himself as a candidate for any installation ceremony or wearing regalia resembling that of the Soun of Ogbomoso Chieftaincy. This order will also remain in effect until the mandatory injunction is resolved.
Furthermore, Prince Muhammed Kabir Olaoye has been directed to serve the motion on notice for the mandatory injunction to all 12 respondents involved in the suit.
Justice Adedokun stated that he found merit in the application after considering the arguments presented by Abiodun Ogunjinmi, counsel to Prince Muhammed Kabir Olaoye. He emphasized that the purpose of the injunction is to prevent a fait accompli, which the respondents have attempted to impose in this case. The matter has been adjourned to September 12, 2023, for further hearing.
The other respondents in the suit include the Ogbomoso North traditional council, Prince Amos Olaoye, the Mogaji of Olaoye Ruling House, Chief S.O. Otolorin, the Areago of Ogbomoso land and chairman of the kingmakers of Soun Chieftaincy, Chief Salawu Ajadi, the Jagun of Ogbomoso land, Chief Tijani Abioye, the Baara of Ogbomoso land, Chief David Adeniran Ojo, the Ikolaba of Ogbomoso land, and Chief Yusuf Rasaki Oladipupo, the Abese of Ogbomoso land.
