SOLUDO GETS A ROUSING WELCOME FROM STUDENTS OF COOU, INTERACTS WITH STAFF AND STUDENTS, ASSURES OF REVITALISING THE EDUCATION SECTOR

In an effort to address the pressing issues concerning tertiary education, especially in public schools, Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo paid a one-day working visit to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, with the aim of interacting with the teaching and non-teaching staff as well as an on the-spot-assessment of the conditions of the university.

Accompanied by key government officials, the Governor unveiled several initiatives aimed at improving public education in the state.

Speaking shortly after being treated to a rousing welcome by students of the school, Governor Soludo highlighted initiatives by his administration, aimed at equipping the school, including, providing students with better access to information and stimulating their interest in learning.

Additionally, the Governor announced new plans for the school to improve learning and create a more supportive learning environment for students.

During his address, the Governor emphasized the importance of collaboration and partnership between the school and his administration, a partnership that aims to improve career readiness and bridge the skills gap between classroom learning and job requirements.

 

He also stressed the need to streamline education services and make them more responsive to the needs of students. He called for better communication and coordination between the school and the state government.

 

He recalled his days as a lecturer and commended the Vice Chancellor and his team for their efforts, which has made the school the second best state-owned institution in the country.

 

While assuring of building a Staff club for the staff, the Governor further noted that there is still room to rank the university the best state university and called for collaborative efforts to develop Anambra State into the desired liveable and prosperous homeland.

On her part, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh eulogized the Governor as a transformative leader, who has revitalized the education sector in the State

 

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Greg Nwakoby enumerated some achievements recorded during his tenure. He commended the Governor and said it was the first time a sitting Governor was visiting the school for an assessment tour. The Vice-Chancellor also used the occasion to make requests institution needs to enhance it learning conditions

 

The Governor thereafter held a session with students of the school, where the SUG President, Mr. Matthew Okpala made requests for construction of speed bumps along the road leading to the school, buses and hostels, to which the Governor granted the first two requests.

 

Secretary to the State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, Chief Protocol officer, Hon Chinedu Nwoye, Transition Committee Chairman for Anambra East, Dr. Anselm Onuorah, among others, were present at the occasion which also featured inspection of some of the school facilities.
