In a glowing tribute to commemorate the Post-humous birthday of the late sage, Governor-elect, Prof Chukwuma Charles Soludo said the Great Zik of Africa was an extraordinary leader par excellence whose vision and ideals for the emancipation and development of Nigeria and indeed the African continent was second to none.

He said his Pan Africanist vision and nationalistic ideals coupled with his unequalled public oratorical prowess remain a source of inspiration to many young Nigerians and Africans in the quest for a peaceful and united Africa continent that will lead the rest of the global community.

The Governor-elect, further said aside from being a great statesman and an outstanding political leader, the Great Zik of Africa, was equally the doyen of African nationalism who was a leading voice and driving force behind Nigeria’s independence in 1960.

Soludo therefore stated that the Great Zik of Africa would forever be remembered for his virtues and ideals which he preached selflessly and the tremendous efforts he made towards building a United Africa for the black race.

He commended Governor Willie Obiano, Executive Governor of Anambra State, for declaring a work-free day in the state in honour of the late sage. He also appealed to the Federal Government of Nigeria to declare November 16 a national holiday in memory of the Great Zik of Africa.

The Rt. Hon. Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe was former Premier of Eastern Nigeria, Senate President, first Indigenous Governor-General and President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He was born November 16, 1904, at Zungeru, Northern Nigeria and died in May 11, 1996 in Enugu (Enugu State), at the age of 91 years.
