The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Christopher Musa, has warned citizens against habouring criminals, so as to avoid casualties.
He said this while he visited troops of Operation of Fasan Yama at the 8 division headquarters in Sokoto.
The warning followed a tragic incident on Christmas day, when an airstrike, intended to target Lakurawa terrorists, inadvertently struck two villages, Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa in the Silame Local Government Area.
The bombing, carried out by the Nigerian Air Force, resulted in the deaths of at least 10 villagers, with many others wounded.
Musa explained that there was proper follow up prior to the operation, and that there were indeed criminals at the location, hence the reason the military proceeded with the attack.
This was made known via a video on the X handle of the Channels TV on Friday, December 27.
He said: “I’ve made it very clear, that there are still individuals that still harbour those people, and then once you do that, you make yourself a legitimate target. And our appeal,is do not let them hang around you,do not give them any support in whatever means, because once you give them, you make yourself a legitimate target.
“The incident that happened yesterday, was an operation we followed up and ensured we avoided mistakes as much as possible,if there were other mistakes that came up, we’re going to investigate that.
“But I can tell you from what we have seen, because we have video evidence of everything that happened, there were criminals in that place, any body that stayed with them was part of them, and so we continue to do our operation in the North.”
