SKILLS FOR WORK PROGRAMME: LASTVEB HOLDS GRADUATION CEREMONY FOR BENEFICIARIES

Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board (LASTVEB) in collaboration with Kessington Adebukonla Adebutu Foundation (KAAF) has graduated 108 beneficiaries of the 2023 Skills for Work in Construction Trade Programme. The ceremony took place on Friday at the Events Limited, Central Business District, Alausa, Ikeja.

The ceremony featured 108 graduates who spent a total of nine months on intensive training and industrial attachment in four areas, namely Masonry and Tiling, Furniture and Carpentry, Plumbing and Pipe Fitting, and Electrical Installations and Maintenance.

 

Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of LASTVEB, Ms. Moronke Azeez, congratulated the beneficiaries on the completion of their various courses and expressed gratitude to KAAF for supporting the vocational training of youths who are either unemployed or out of school to become productive citizens in terms of gaining employment or setting up businesses.

Azeez said, “What we have done over the last few months is to work in partnership with KAAF to come up with four skilled areas – Masonry and Tiling, Furniture and Carpentry, Plumbing and Pipefitting, and Electrical Installations and Maintenance. All of these fall under the Skills for Work programme which is targeted at the development of Lagos and also reducing unemployment in the State”.

 

One of the graduates, Mr. Alexander Jeb said the training has provided a platform for the participants to connect with industry professionals, and potential employers as well as network with fellow graduates to further create more opportunities, employment and collaborations within the construction industry.

 

In his welcome address, the Director of the Learning Management System, Mr. Kolapo Jelili Oladapo mentioned that the 108 participants that graduated were from more than 1000 that applied for the training.

 

The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of awards, certificates and tools to the graduates to start their various trades, while excellent performance by instructors and participants was also rewarded
