The Senate is scheduled to discuss a motion on Tuesday when they resume their plenary session. This motion, introduced by Senator Ali Ndume and supported by Senators Sani Musa Aliyu Wamakko, and Ibrahim Bomai, addresses allegations of systematic genocide against Christians in the country.
The motion titled, “Urgent need to correct misconceptions regarding the purported ‘Christian genocide’ narrative in Nigeria and international communities”, urged the federal government, especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and pertinent security agencies, to employ a data-driven strategy in their public communications.

The senators urged the foreign affairs ministry and security agencies to provide accurate casualty numbers, detailed contextual reports, and results of investigations regarding victims of insecurity. They said it essential to combat misinformation both within the country and internationally.
Senator Ndume, along with the other co-sponsors, stated that the proposal aims to address and rectify an issue of “dangerous misrepresentations of the country’s security challenges as a campaign of Christian genocide.”
