Heineken, one of the leading beer brands, has received recognition for its impressive contribution to environmental sustainability initiatives by the Climate Disclosure Project, CDP, a non-profit organization that focuses on corporate disclosure of sustainability strategies and metrics.

The beer brand announced this on its website where it affirms practices across its value chain. It said: “We are proud to announce that HEINEKEN has been recognized as a leading company on CDP’s 2022 Supplier Engagement Leader board, ranking among the top 8% of assessed companies for supplier engagement on climate change.

“Becoming net-zero means not only decarbonizing our own business, but our whole supply chain too” the company added.

Heineken revealed that over the last one year, it intensified efforts on sustainability through strategic engagement with partners and suppliers with initiatives like the Cool Conference and Packaging the Future.

“Our goal is to reach net zero in scope 1 and 2 by 2030 and net zero across our value chain by 2040 – 10 years ahead of the Paris Agreement.

Commenting on this, Hervé Le Faou , Chief Procurement Officer, said: “For HEINEKEN, scope 3 emissions represent more than 90% of our total carbon footprint. To reach our net zero goals, we must collaborate with strategic suppliers to accelerate their transition to renewable energy. I’m happy to be partnering with the Supplier Leadership on Climate Transition (Supplier LoCT) to provide them capabilities that support their journey. I’m also proud of our teams for what we’ve accomplished so far, but I’m conscious that we still have a long road ahead.

This recognition comes as a result of our hard work to reduce climate risk within our supply chain. Kudos to our procurement teams who have been in the lead to engage suppliers in our net-zero journey. While a lot more needs to be done, let’s take a moment to celebrate this recognition and the teams who made it happen. Together, we can brew a better world!

According to CDP, in 2019, suppliers cut 563 Metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalents, MTCO2e, worth of an emission which is equivalent to removing 119 million cars from the road for a year. This attracted subsequent savings of over US$20 billion.
