Report has shown that Biden will be meeting Rishi Sunak in Downing Street for discussions that could touch on cluster munitions and Ukraine’s bid to join Nato before joining the King for tea and talks on the climate crisis at Windsor Castle.
The United States President, Joe Biden has arrived in the United Kingdom to discuss Ukraine’s bid to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) with Rishi Sunak and King Charles.
It was learnt that Biden will meet Rishi Sunak in Downing Street for discussions that could touch on cluster munitions and Ukraine’s bid to join Nato before joining the King for tea and talks on the climate crisis at Windsor Castle
The Air Force One landed at London Stansted on Sunday evening, before the pomp and circumstance of the US president’s layover on his way to the NATO summit in Lithuania.
After defending the “difficult” choice to deliver cluster munitions to Kyiv, Mr Biden will visit the Prime Minister in Downing Street on Monday morning, The Independent reports.
However, Sunak said that Britain “discourages” their use as one of 123 signatories to a convention prohibiting the use of the bombs, but No. 10 refused to indicate whether he will press the issue.
The White House stated that the two will “compare notes” on Ukraine’s counter-offensive, which is making sluggish but steady progress in driving out Russian forces.
Though all allies at the Vilnius meeting on Tuesday agreed that Ukraine cannot join during the war, as this would bring the West into direct conflict with Russia, the US is considered as the most cautious about joining.
