SANWO-OLU COMMISSIONS NEWLY REHABILITATED J.F. ADE AJAYI AUDITORIUM

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, on Thursday commissioned the newly rehabilitated J.F. Ade Ajayi Auditorium at the University of Lagos, Akoka describing the upgraded facility as a proud symbol of collaboration, excellence, and the enduring spirit of scholarship.

 

The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. ‘Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, expressed joy at the timely completion of the upgrade, which he described as a celebration of the spirit of dedication, teamwork work and visionary leadership the university is known for.

He said, “We are not just unveiling a renovated structure today; we are celebrating the dedication, teamwork, and visionary leadership that made this transformation possible. This auditorium has always been a place where ideas are born, shared, and refined; a space that embodies the heart of academic life in this great university.”

 

Sanwo-Olu commended the University Management and Governing Council for their commitment to excellence, noting that the upgraded auditorium, equipped with modern seating, state-of-the-art audio-visual systems, and improved accessibility, reflects the University’s determination to provide a world-class learning and cultural environment.

 

He also paid glowing tribute to the late Professor J.F. Ade Ajayi, the renowned historian and former Vice-Chancellor of the university, whom the hall is named after. According to the Governor, Professor J.F. Ade Ajayi’s life and work reminded us of the power of knowledge, integrity, and purposeful leadership, adding that it was heartwarming that his legacy continues to inspire generations of scholars and nation-builders.

 

Governor Sanwo-Olu congratulated the entire UNILAG staff, students, alumni, and project partners on the successful completion of the project, urging them to continue nurturing the legacy of academic excellence that defines the institution.

 

 

 

In her welcome remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, expressed profound appreciation to the Lagos State Government for its continuous support to education and infrastructural renewal within and beyond the University of Lagos.

 

She said the university has had rough times, but prompt intervention by the Lagos State Government was commendable. She noted that rehabilitation of the auditorium aligns with Unilag’s strategic goal of creating spaces that foster innovation, collaboration and global competitiveness among students and faculty.

 

She commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for identifying with Unilag’s vision to create a 21st-century academic environment and his unwavering support at all times, including the donation of a laboratory for the Department of Engineering.

 

The SSG was accompanied by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Mr. Tolani Sule, Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Biodun Ogunleye and the Special Adviser on Works, Engr. Adekunle Olayinka.

 

The ceremony concluded with a tour of the newly refurbished facility, where the principal officers of the university and guests admired the blend of heritage architecture and modern design that now defines the J.F. Ade Ajayi Auditorium.
