The sad news was confirmed by filmmaker Stanley Ontop, who had previously led efforts to raise funds for the actor’s medical treatment. Sharing the heartbreaking update, Stanley wrote: “Good afternoon everyone.

It’s a sad moment for Nollywood as we just received confirmation from Tom Njemanze’s family that he passed away yesterday due to health complications. We did our best, but God knows best. Rest in peace, legend.”

Tom Njemanze, known for his commanding screen presence and deep, dramatic voice, was a staple of Nollywood in the 1990s and early 2000s. He featured in many iconic films including Died Wretched, Issakaba, Twin Brothers, and Osuofia in London. His unique acting style and ability to deliver emotionally charged performances made him a beloved figure both on and off the screen.

Many fans and colleagues have taken to social media to express their condolences and pay tribute to the late actor, describing his death as a monumental loss to the Nigerian film industry. Njemanze’s legacy as a passionate actor and cultural storyteller is expected to continue influencing upcoming generations of filmmakers.

“He was one of the true greats,” one Nollywood director wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Tom Njemanze gave everything to his craft. This is a painful loss.”

The actor had been out of the public eye for some time, sparking concern among fans who only recently learned about his declining health through public fundraising efforts. His death marks yet another painful reminder of the vulnerability of veteran entertainers who face health challenges with limited support.

Tributes continue to pour in from across the country, with many calling for stronger industry structures to support aging actors and veterans who contributed to the early growth of Nollywood.
