President of the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Spring Garden Rtn Festus Etsemitan has reiterated the club’s commitment to carry out human capacity projects that will create hope in the world.
Rtn Festus Etsemitan made the remark during his installation as the fourth President of the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Spring Garden in Port Harcourt.
He said “When evaluating all that transpired over the last few years, the pandemic, inflation, petroleum and natural gas price hike, significant hike in foreign exchange etc. and how we are all affected, not only in our personal lives and our jobs, impacted by the worldwide economy, but also how our club has managed to and will have to manage to stay its course. I feel that, as Rotarians, we are all called upon, as stated in our theme for this year, which states: “Create Hope in the World”.
He said this Rotary year 2023/2024, the club has budgeted over thirteen million naira for projects in the Rotary areas of focus which includes Maternal and Child Health, Disease Prevention and Treatment, Basic Education and Literacy, Peace and Conflict Prevention, Environment and MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS.
He said “Let me use this opportunity to unveil or service projects as I crave your partnership and contribution in making life bearable for our community.”
“The impact of our community involvement continues to grow and the difference that we make continues to make it a worthwhile undertaking. Some things cannot be measured, the look on the faces of children of varying ages as we help them with back to school kit is unforgettable. Or is it the emotional sigh of relief you sense from the nursery and primary school pupils when after months of sitting on the dusty floor to learn from a board that they have to strain their eyes to see alphabets and numbers, Rotary finally provides chairs and brand-new learning boards.”
“The look of relief on the faces of children and community members who attend our annual health fair is long lasting.”
“The Joy in the heart of that family that can finally drink from an uncontaminated community bore-hole system presented by Rotary.”
On her part, a mental health expert, Dr Patricia Ikiriko who spoke on the topic “Mental Health Issues Are Real. There’s A Probability of Anyone Being Affected” explained that her remedy for Mental Health includes, LEGACY MINDSET, SERVING WITH JOY, and DELIGHTSOME SERVICE.
