A press statement by the Rotary International District 9141 signed by the District Governor Chinedu Ikegwuani explained that “with over 30 lives lost and more than 1 million displaced, this tragedy—triggered by the collapse of the Alau Dam—has left a trail of devastation, with property damage now exceeding a staggering ₦150 billion”.

“The situation on the ground is dire. Women in displacement camps face life-threatening conditions due to inadequate healthcare and the looming risk of disease outbreaks, while vast farmlands lie submerged, sparking fears of widespread food shortages and soaring prices”, the District Chair on Environment, Rtn Dr Emem Okon said.

To this effect, The Rotary District 9141 has issued an urgent call to the Governors of Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, and Rivers states, warning that the floodwaters are heading their way.

The press statement by the Service organization said unless drastic preventive measures are taken, these regions could soon face their own disaster.

“With lives and livelihoods at stake, the Rotary organization calls for immediate action to save Nigeria from further catastrophe”.

“This is a race against time, and Rotary District 9141 is pushing for a nationwide emergency response to prevent further loss of life and property across the country”, DG Chinedu Ikegwuani asserted.
