Port Harcourt, Nigeria – The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Elites, the newest gem in Rotary International District 9141, made an unforgettable debut with its impactful maternal and child health initiative. The scene was set at the Police Clinic on Bank Road, Old GRA, where pregnant and nursing mothers gathered to witness a moment of transformation for their community’s healthcare services.
The day was a heartwarming blend of compassion and action. The Rotary Club donated a brand-new delivery bed, childbirth kits, and mosquito nets, making a clear statement: every mother deserves a safe and comfortable birthing experience. The mosquito nets? A thoughtful touch to combat malaria, a persistent threat to mothers and babies in the region.
As the delivery bed was unveiled, applause echoed through the room. For the clinic, it wasn’t just furniture—it was a lifeline for safer deliveries. For the mothers, it was a symbol of hope.
District Governor Chinedu Ikegwuani, in his signature energetic style, praised the club’s initiative. “This isn’t just a donation; it’s a promise to uplift families and strengthen healthcare from the grassroots,” he said, emphasizing Rotary’s global commitment to maternal and child health.
The club’s President, Jonathan Kaura, PHF, spoke with passion about the project’s significance. “Maternal and child health is at the core of what Rotary stands for,” he declared. “We’re here to bridge gaps and ensure every mother and child feels supported.”
Dr. Chucks, the Officer-in-Charge of the Police Clinic, could barely hide his excitement. “This delivery bed will transform the care we provide, and these childbirth kits will ensure safe deliveries. We can’t thank the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Elites enough for stepping in at this crucial moment,” he said, visibly moved.
The mothers themselves were brimming with gratitude. “Knowing my baby and I will be safe means everything to me,” said one expectant mother as she tucked her new mosquito net under her arm.
This isn’t just a one-off for the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Elites—it’s the beginning of a legacy. As the club continues to grow, so does its mission to transform lives through impactful service projects.
The event wasn’t just about donations; it was about bridging the gap between healthcare challenges and community needs, proving that even a small club can create ripples of change.
As the program wrapped up, the message was clear: Rotary is here to empower, uplift, and serve. The Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Elites left an indelible mark on the community, reinforcing that together, we can build healthier, stronger, and more hopeful futures—one mother, one baby, and one project at a time.
The magic of Rotary had truly come alive.
