Rivers LGA Poll: A new Political Culture has Emerged in Rivers State- APC LG Chairmanship Aspirant Chidi Lloyd.

… no longer a “Winner-Takes-it-Politics in Rivers”.
… Praise Peaceful LG Elections.

EMUOHA, Rivers State – APC chairmanship aspirant in Emuoha Local Government Area, Hon. Chidi Lloyd, has applauded the conduct of the local government elections in the area, describing the process as peaceful, seamless, and rancor-free.
Lloyd, who voted at Ward 10, Unit 09 in Omodioga/Akpabu/Itu, said the exercise reflected a new political culture in Rivers State.
“The election in Emuoha has been adjudged to be very peaceful, seamless, rancor-free. You can see the camaraderie going on—people eating, drinking, and talking,” he noted.
He stressed that Rivers politics was moving away from “winner-takes-all,” with strong candidates from different parties now competing fairly.
“It’s no longer a winner-takes-all thing. When the selection process from the primaries is transparent, people will support the candidate at the general election,” he said.
Lloyd also called for reforms to strengthen the process, particularly electronic voting.
“I would prefer electronic voting. It makes it seamless and neat. When my details are logged in and my photograph just pops up, it builds confidence,” he added.
On logistical challenges, he pointed out that the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RISEC) still relies on the National Union of Road Transport Workers for vehicles, which sometimes delays material distribution. However, he praised the noticeable improvement in ad-hoc staff recruitment and reduced cases of result mutilation.
“We didn’t see too much mutilation of results. The culture is coming to stay—a political culture that is evolving,” he affirmed.
Voters at Ward 10, Unit 09 also expressed satisfaction with the process.
One voter said:
“The election is free and fair. Everything is going smoothly without barriers.”
Another, a first-time voter, added:
“I am happy to come out and vote. The process is peaceful, no problems at all.”
Residents across Emuoha described the election as transparent, credible, and an encouraging step for democracy at the grassroots.
